Technicians walk through olive plots, carefully inspecting trees for visible symptoms. Sampling focuses on plant material that shows clear signs of disease, typically branches or shoots with mature leaves. Young shoots are avoided to ensure that the sample reflects established infection.
Each sample must belong to a single plant, ensuring accurate traceability. Before placing the material in a bag, branches and leaves are shaken to prevent transporting potential insect vectors along with the sample.
Samples are stored in sealed plastic bags, labelled with a unique code and kept under controlled temperatures between 4°C and 8°C. Maintaining freshness is essential, particularly during warmer periods, which is why transport is carried out using insulated containers.
This methodology ensures that samples arrive at the laboratory in optimal condition, supporting accurate diagnosis and reliable monitoring.
